The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend giving cough and cold medicines to infants and children under 2 years of age. Evidence shows these products are not effective in children under 6 and can have potentially serious side effects.
Treatments of colds/upper respiratory infection should include plenty of fluids, rest, use of bulb syringe to clear nasal passages, and in some instances saline dose drops.
Appropriate measuring devices should be used with giving children medication.
